P80 Glock Accessories - I built a Glock! I fried the frame a bit to get this glock. I basically dremeled and filed in some polymer until the slide and lower components fit. It's not exactly complicated, but I'll admit that I've gained enough by the time I can fly it reliably. The Polymer 80 doesn't count as a gun when you buy it. You can literally buy it on Amazon and have it shipped to your door. Some states have unusual rules about the series of firearms you make, but most do not. The Polymer 80 frame is not based on an actual Glock frame, but is made from Glock parts. Polymer 80 has made some changes to the PF940V2 design.
Notably they've improved the grip ergonomics for the better. There are no finger grooves, and the grip angle of the Polymer 80 frame is 18 degrees for the 1911ish, up from the standard Glock 22 degrees. The gun also has a full length picatinny rail.

The rear of the frame also has a non-beavertail (but longer than a standard Glock frame). This is a standard full-size Glock 17 frame, but they also offer hybrid frames with Glock 17 slides in 26, 19, and Glock 19 grips. These frames are designed to work with Gen 3 parts.

I don't want to go too deep into the manufacturing process or the milling process. Milling Polymer 80 was pretty easy, I used nothing but a dremel and a hand gun drill. Of course, the Polymer 80 provides the necessary jig and drill bits to complete the gun. I also used a small file to attach the slide to the frame.
I used a Gen 3 Glock 17 slide that appears to be a crossover of the Larry Vickers version. This is FDE and sports Ameriglo scenes. I've been keeping the barrel for a while and I don't know who makes it. No markings other than caliber and model number. It was given to me. It has a stainless steel threaded barrel that fits and functions effortlessly.
The gun uses OEM parts outside the rails that include Polymer 80. I use an extended magazine release and an extended slide lock. Installing parts for a Glock is incredibly easy, even easier than an AR 15. To be clear, making Polymer 80 is very simple and easy to do.
Reaching range is a hit or miss thing with the Polymer 80. The first few times I went to the range, I would have breakdowns, come back home, file some and hit the range again. I've read on several forums that you need to cycle the slide hundreds of times before it fires reliably. I certainly did that during filing.

I always call the idea of breaking in a new gun bullshit. This is 2019, modern manufacturing to be exact. However, I am by no means a modern maker. My gun needed a break, so I loaded three ETS 31 round magazines. The gun got a little better after each magazine. I've had a lot of failures with towing along the way.
The pattern went like this: shoot a magazine of ammunition, do some filing, add some oil, shoot another magazine. I was very excited when I ran a full magazine for the first time without any problems. After that, the gun ran like a champ. Took about 150 rounds to break it in, but now it works reliably.
The frame should not fit the slide as the gun is exceptionally accurate. The barrel is polygonal versus traditional rifling, but it seems to get the job done. The visuals of Ameriglo are quite beautiful overall. I ring the steel fifty yards back on my favorite little popper.
As a full-sized 9mm handgun you don't expect much recoil, and you don't get much. A short beavertail adds a little rear leverage to grip the gun and increase your control. Fast and accurate firing is easily achieved. Since I'm already running a threaded barrel, I can go full bore and toss in a wire.

As I mentioned earlier there were some initial problems until things got going smoothly. My goal is not serious use of the gun I built myself, but I want it to work. I seem to have overcome some real problems with reliability.
I want to make sure the magazine fits. What good is a Glock if it doesn't use Glock magazines reliably? I tested it with the aforementioned ETS magazines, Magpul Glock magazines, KCI Glock magazines, and OEM magazines. All of them work reliably and with zero issues when it comes to insertion and ejection. The same is true of rounding a gun.
Ergonomically, I really like this gun. The grip angle is great and the lack of finger grooves is a big deal for me. It's a wide grip, but I have big hands and I love it. The extended magazine release and slide lock are very nice. Like all Glocks, my fat thumb catches the slide lock so the slide doesn't open when the weapon is empty.
The Polymer 80 has a deep cut under the trigger guard, which allows you to hold the gun higher and exert more control. Also, the magazine release has a better relief cut, making the magazine release easier than a standard Glock magazine release.

Overall, I prefer the ergonomics of the Polymer 80 frame over a standard Glock. I prefer the Polymer 80 frame over the new Gen 5. The grip angle is much better and feels more natural to me. It's subjective, which is understandable if you want a standard grip.
The best feature is that Polymer 80 is a blank canvas. Glock has a huge aftermarket and you can start from the ground up and build the gun you want with the trigger, controls, slide, sights and barrel.
I have found that the P80 does not fit some holsters for my classic Glock 17, however others fit well. This is something you should definitely look for before buying a holster.
The Glock Gen 3 has a very wide range of aftermarket slides that are the most popular of the slide options. The Polymer 80 PF940V2 is highly customizable and you can dig deep to make it the gun you want. This is one of the most fun projects I've done in a while and I can't wait to make another one.
